Just purchased a 2005 1.9tdi and have discovered an extremely loud whining and squeeling noise on full lock.

Mechanic said it is drive belt slipping and tensioners need doing.

Has anyone come across this before?,

Vehicle has 65000 on click , no other issues other than this loud noise.

I had this problem on my 53' plate so I changed the aux belt and tensioner. It was better but on full lock whilst parking it still made noises and vibrates.

Think my Galaxy's problem is the steering pump, so I just carefully rev it a bit more to lose the sound and vibration.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Several things can cause the squealing noises and vibration on steering.

Alternator clutch pulley slipping or seized

Auxiliary belt and tensioner

Low fluid level in power steering

Power steering pump bolts loose.

Changed Freewheel Alternator Pulley and another belt. Problem sorted. Many thanks to everyone who posted their recommendations.

i've got the same thing on my 1997 galaxy. my mechanic said it's the power steering belt slipping as it is loose.

may need an adjustment or a new belt.

look behind front drivers side wheel when some one has got full lock on and you will see it slipping

Had the same symptoms. Back street garage said it was the power steering pump and changed that. Noise still there. BS Garage telephoned local Fraud who told them it was the alternator bearing and the alternator needed changing. Alternator changed. Noise gone. A good forum like this and a few tools can save you hundreds.
